An Interview with Magi:

How did you two meet?

“We met in Jamestown. I was going to college at the University of Jamestown, and there was a couple there I was really good friends with, Courtney, and Dawson, who was best friends with Cole. He came to visit for the weekend, and we just met at a party and that was that. He asked me to dance and the rest was history.”

Why did you choose the Synclaire Events Venue?

“When we got engaged, I didn't really have any idea of where we wanted. I looked in Bismarck first, and there wasn’t anything that fit my vibe. I definitely love traditional, old, vintage, all of that. My parents live like an hour from Fargo, so that wasn’t out of the question. I was looking and looking and then I was like, oh my gosh, someone I know got married at the Synclaire. I totally forgot about it. I looked it up, and I was like, oh my gosh, this is totally me like to a T. I booked a couple places to go tour, and my mom and I went together. The Synclaire was the first one, and we looked at each other like, there's no way we're picking anything else because this is it, so we called the rest of our tours and canceled them. It was just so beautiful.
The coordinator there, the owner, Jenna, she is just so fantastic and chill to work with. Some places there's so many rules, and she was just so amazing to work with and so pleasant from the start. That just made our process a lot easier, and it was definitely the style I was going for.”

What was something in your wedding that you knew you couldn't live without?

“My biggest thing throughout the wedding process was that I needed everyone there. No matter what happens or how it goes, I just needed all my people there and healthy and happy… It won't be the day if everybody's not there. Everything else could have gone haywire, but I was 10 times more panicked before my rehearsal night than before the wedding night because everyone that I needed there was there already.”

What's something you and Cole splurged on?

“The venue… It was the most expensive one, but so worth it. We also went a little bit over on photos, but that was so worth it because Ashley is fantastic…
I had told her, I don't want to be behind the camera all day. We can do our photos, but then I just want you to be within the crowd and take the day in as it is, I don't want it to feel posed or feel perfect. She was there… She just took in the day. She was there even later than what we had asked, and she was just snapping away, but also dancing too.”

What was your something borrowed?

“I wore my mom's earrings, and I had a handkerchief from my grandma. I also had a ribbon on my bouquet that was also my grandma's on her bouquet.”

What was your first dance song?

“Until
I Found You by Stephen Sanchez”

What was one of the details of your wedding that really made it yours and Cole's?

“I was very big on making everything as personalized as possible, and I wanted everyone to feel like a guest. So after the ceremony, everybody got a drink that they wanted. We had a couple handing out drinks, so they got that feeling when they sat down. Also, we would have loved to have done it for everybody, but for the people at our head table and reserved tables, we wrote them all notes with a photo of us and them. When we sent out our invites, we wrote like, hi, so and so, we have two spots saved just for you. We tried as best as possible to make sure everything was so personalized to everyone. The day is about us, but it's also about them and thanking them.
I also dedicated my bouquet to my mom. I just wanted to make sure I included everyone around us as much as one can with 300 people. Just making it personalized for everyone, too, so they don't just feel like they're attending a wedding, but that they're having a whole experience with it as well.”

Did Cole cry?

“Yes, he did. He cried when he first saw me during our first look.
He probably cried more than I did then. Then, we did private vows too, and he cried during that. I don't know if he cried down the aisle because I was bawling the whole way, so I couldn’t see.”

Which vendors went above and beyond?

“Definitely Synclaire Events Venue. Our food was really fantastic from Urban Foods Catering… We did a served meal. It was just so nice, and they were very professional with it.
We didn't even know they were there, and the food was phenomenal. We get compliments still now. And Ashley and David. We had to change our videographer last minute. It was a little bit stressful, and I had reached out to Ashley, and she was like, David can shoot on super eight film. We've got it.
We've got you taken care of. That was a big stress, and then they immediately took it off. So I would recommend Ashley forever. We also did a dance floor from Twirl Dance Floors, and they were also easy. They came in at like 5:30, set the dance floor, came in at midnight, tore it down, and left.
They weren't in your way. And then I had a cake done by Sonder Bakehouse and they did wonderful. All of our vendors were amazing.

What is a piece of advice that you would give to future couples?

“To truly take the day in. I know everybody says that, but it goes by so fast. In the morning, when you're getting ready with your girls, just turn the music on, sit there, dance, don't be stressed, and don't pick people that will stress you out. Have all of your most beautiful people around you and just have fun that morning. I would go and redo that whole morning again because it was just so fun. You’re with all your best friends. And then to truly not be behind the camera all day because there are things I'm like, I don't even remember this. I don't remember talking to this person, and we weren't behind the camera. So I can't even imagine like leaving and going and taking photos. Granted, they're beautiful, but then you just miss out on so much time with people, especially if you have a large amount of people that attend your wedding. You will cherish those moments and the pictures of you talking to someone and all of those things so much more. The day is more about that I personally think. Just take it in and be with all of your people and include the people that aren't going to stress you out. It will make your day perfect, even if things go wrong.”
