For Lon Hardy, store manager of the 24th Ave SW store in Minot, Riddle’s Jewelry is not just a job. It’s a chance to be a part of someone’s love story, an experienced guide in finding the perfect family heirloom, and the knowing goldsmith bringing shine back to a well-loved piece. “The nice thing about my job is, generally speaking, every day is different,” explains Lon, a 30-year industry veteran. “One day it’s a young man who is looking to get engaged, and the next is someone that inherited a piece that’s not their style and we work on designing something that’s especially for them.”
When speaking of engagement rings, Lon’s biggest piece of advice is seemingly simple…to listen. “I recommend before coming in you’ve been listening to her. You know what she likes for styles, shape of stone, large look, small look, and color of the ring she would like,” he says. “And, look at her hand, I ask them to describe her hand so we can determine what will look good on her.” Lon also stresses the importance of in-person shopping. “This is a personal item you’re buying. How does it feel when you’re holding it, how does it look in-person?”
